New planning consent in the Cornwall AONB!

We are very happy to announce that our planning application for a replacement dwelling, annex and garage in the Cornwall National Landscape has been granted planning consent!

The new home will be a 4 bedroom family home on a 0.26 acre plot on the Roseland Penninsula. It will be Passivhaus certified and will benefit from a series of energy and water saving measures including PV panels.

Kiss Architecture Lead Owen Jones discusses getting planning consent in the Cornwall AONB!

We asked Owen Jones, Kiss Architecture Lead, to tell us how he approached planning in the AONB and what factors influenced the form and plan of the home. We also discussed his design influences, advice for others, challenges faced and how he designed for Passivhaus and net zero.

We won planning consent in Bath for Cox’s Quarry!

We are thrilled to announce that we have officially secured planning approval for our project at Cox's Quarry, Bath.

This was no mean feat especially when you consider that we applied to build 6 net zero, timber clad, Passivhaus homes in a conservation area in a world heritage site known for stone houses.

This milestone marks a significant step forwards in our journey to sustainably develop this beautiful site, and means our homes will be coming to Bath soon!

How Kiss is approaching biodiversity net gain.

During recent planning applications the Kiss team has found that Local Authorities are applying more stringent application of biodiversity and ecology policy to planning applications for all new builds — including those for single dwellings.

Planning Law has changed — Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)

BNG has become a compulsory condition for achieving planning permission, applying to all major developments from January 2024 and smaller sites from April 2024

In an enlightening Q&A with Claudia Stephens from Urbanist Architecture, we delved into the critical topic of biodiversity net gain (BNG), a mandatory requirement in UK planning.

Through our discussion, Claudia shed light on the practical applications and challenges of implementing BNG in today's development landscape.

New designs in progress.

We’ve got some exciting new designs in progress for self-build and custom build projects.

The selection below includes concept and planning designs. Each design responds directly to its site context meaning it is sensitive to its surroundings whilst also delivering everything you’d expect us to deliver on performance. This means we work hard to ensure all designs are orientated for optimal solar gain, and have carefully considered glazing layouts to ensure great occupant comfort year round with great daylighting and private views.
